Diners at Chappy’s Deli in Prattville got more than they paid for when they found themselves in the middle of a flash mob. It was all put on by Trinity United Methodist Church to spread a little Christmas cheer.

At exactly 6:30 Thursday evening members of Prattville’s Trinity United Methodist Church choir broke out into song at Prattville’s Chappy’s Deli, all to the surprise of other diners and to those working.

The choir typically puts on a Christmas party for its members but this year, Music Director Robert Wynn says they wanted to do something different.

“We decided that instead of giving to ourselves, we’d like to give back to the community.”

And that’s just what they did. Through song…and a little extra money for every employee on shift.

“We chose Chappy’s to come and do a flash mob and our choir also took up money that we would give to each other and we have bought each member of the staff a gift card.”

Kristen Chappell manages the Chappy’s Deli and couldn’t believe the gesture.

“Thank you! This is a surprise,” she said to Wynn. “We really do appreciate it.”

And other diners appreciated the gift of song as well.

“That’s the first I’ve heard something like that, except at the mall,” says Mary Anne Mehl. “It was a good flash mob. I enjoyed it tremendously.”

Choir member Bud Hancock says he believes the flash mob was a success.

“We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a happy holiday and a safe new year.”
