Holiday Travel Season Kicks into High Gear

It’s that time of year when getting home for the holidays seems to be on everyone’s mind.
The Montgomery Regional Airport is certainly seeing the rush.

“The airports been busy, and that’s a good thing. The parking lots been busy, the restaurants have been busy, the airlines have certainly been busy,” said Exec. Director Phil Perry.

Six million people throughout the country are expected to fly this season.
Ronald Dawson just flew in to the Capital City to see his grandson play in the Camellia Bowl this weekend.

“I’m coming from Columbus, Ohio, been up since 3 o’clock this morning, came on standby,” said Dawson.

Perry says the travel has definitely picked up this season.

“This year is a good year. Every year about this time the airport is busy but its busier this year than the last 5,” said Perry.

But it’s not just the airports that are busy.
Many are expected to hit the roadways this season especially with the lower gas prices.
We met up with one family in Montgomery loaded up with their pets traveling from Louisiana to Georgia.

Emily Deville says they made it through the bad weather. “During the day it was kinda bad and really rainy, kinda just cooled down.”

As for the traffic, they haven’t had too much trouble. “Not really. When you’re coming into the city area yes. But on the interstate, no,” said Lynn Noel.

Not everyone has had the same experience.
Milton Sampson is making a trip from Georgia to Alabama and back to Georgia
this evening.

“oh, this time of year the traveling is bad because there is so much traffic out there. Not only do you have to drive for yourself, but you have to drive for the other fella as well,” said Sampson.

Triple-A expects 98.6 million Americans to fly or drive between now and New Year’s.
