Wetumpka Police Donate Toys to Local Kids
The Wetumpka police department is making sure local kids have a merry Christmas. Local businesses around the city of Wetumpka donated toys and food to the police, who then gave it to over 250 kids who might have gone without for the holidays.Â
This event has been going on for several years, and it’s a way for kids and their families to see the police as real people – not as someone who it out to get people into trouble.
“It means a lot to us,” said Wetumpka police chief Danny Billingsly. “When they see [the police] on the street, they can wave at them rather than take off running. It gives a little better relationship between the officer and the community.”
