Troy Mayor Reflects on 2014, Shares Goals for 2015

Heading into a new year is often a time to reflect on the years past. And for Troy Mayor Jason Reeves 2014 brought some challenges but also good news for the city’s economy.
The city’s utility and sales tax revenue’s hit historic highs. This fiscal year the city hit a record of more than $5.6 million in sales tax.
Utility rates were high due in part from the ice storm that started off the year. Troy was hit with some of the worst conditions in the state. But the mayor said that was a true test of the city’s infrastructure. The city made it through without any major power issues.
Draft beer also became legal this year. That was good news for restaurants.
“Downtown is doing better than it every has, I think 231 from a standpoint of consumer spending and utility usage, our community is thriving,” Mayor Reeves said.
The mayor says 2015 should be the year for breaking ground on the new animal shelter and a new facility at the Pike County Lake.
