From the West Alabama Newsroom– The city of Selma is making final preparations to host free screenings of the movie ‘Selma’ and residents have high expectations about the movie.

‘Selma ‘ tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his role in the Selma Voting Rights Movement of 1965.

The movie is set to open this weekend — some residents are concerned about how historically accurately the movie will be.

The city’s civil rights history is a source of pride for a lot of the people who live in Selma.

“I would like for the movie to be 100 percent accurate myself,” said Selma resident E.J. Rogers. “Just because things that happened then are relevant and we need to teach our young folks the things and let them see what happened back in the day.”

“I was here back in the sixties when all these things were taking place so I would like for them to be portrayed the way they took place,” said Selma native Henry Brown.

Friday show times are at 4:15,  7:00 & 9:45 pm.

Saturday show times are at — 1:30 (for seniors 55 years and up) – 4:15,  7:00 and 9:45 pm.

Sunday show times are at 1:30, 4:15 and 7 pm.

Advance tickets are available at the Performing Arts Center from 11 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm — Wednesday and Thursday.
