Capri Theatre Launches Fundraising Campaign

The Capri Theater kicked off a three-year fund raising campaign tonight.
It’s goal is to raise 750 thousand dollars. The money will be used to make upgrades.
This 73-year-old independent theater sits right in the Cloverdale business district. It’s a historical venue that’s loved by so many people who are now working it up to date.
The Capri Theatre is the only independent theater in Montgomery and it’s a place many take pride in. The theatre has undergone a number of renovations over the past few years, like going digital in 2013, in an attempt to stay modern. Now, the theatre needs help from the community to make a few more upgrades.
“Rewiring the theater and adding more power and changing it around from a 1941 wiring to something a little more modern,” says Director Martin McCaffery.
Aside from rewiring the building, McCaffery says the lobby will also be redone and more restrooms will be added. A fund raising campaign called Lighting the Heart of Cloverdale kicked off Thursday night to raise money for the projects.
“The Capri is so important to the city of Montgomery and really to the entire state,” Capri Board Member Caroline Rosen. “It’s the oldest continuously active theater in the state and we’re just so happy to have it here in Montgomery.”
Arch Lee is the city council representative for the Capri.
“I think anything that the neighborhoods and the city as a whole can do to keep it going in the right direction is a benefit not only to old Cloverdale but to the city as a whole.”
“We’ll be soliciting donations for three year pledges and trying to raise enough money to make these improvements which are necessary to keep the theatre open,” McCaffery told us.
Those with the theater are hoping their fund raising efforts will help keep it in business for another 73 years.
