From the West Alabama Newsroom– A Catholic charity in Selma known for feeding the hungry is now providing a warm place for people in the community who need to get out the cold.
Edmundite Missions has opened a warming station at the Bosco Food Center in Selma.
The warming center will be open until 6:30 pm each day during the deep freeze.
The charity is also putting dozens of people up in hotel rooms overnight.
Chad McEachern is the Executive Director at Edmundite Missions.
“When we found out that no agency, no organization in the city or even at the county level were responding to this need, we knew we had to,” said McEachern.
Edmundite Missions was founded in 1937 and serves people who live in Lowndes, Wilcox and Dallas Counties.
The food center serves up hot meals twice a day — everyday.
