At the start of this new year, one local volunteer organization is making sure that people in our area won’t be going hungry.
This is the First United Methodist Church in Old Cloverdale’s first ‘sweet potato drop.’ The church paid for the shipment of potatoes to 22 different River Region food agencies.
That will provide 30-thousand servings of food for people in need across the River Region.
More than 60 volunteers of all ages bagged the 10-thousand pounds of sweet potatoes donated by Cullman farmer.
The Society of Saint Andrew is a national organization that works with farmers across the southeast to cut down on food waste and hunger.
