Alabama News Network continues to follow the story of a Montgomery County Commissioner who’s been diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, she said goodbye to her hair for a while. Commissioner, Ronda Walker, went to the hair salon to get her head shaved. She tells us she wasn’t feeling very well today, which made it an even more emotional process. Walker has Stage 3 breast cancer. She was diagnosed last month. So far, she’s had 2 out of 8 chemotherapy treatments. Once the process was over, she says she felt like there was weight lifted off of her — literally– because she says the hair was matting on her head. “It’s a symbol of what’s going on, you know, so yeah that makes it difficult. I’ve had a bad day today, I’ve had a bad day all day… probably in anticipation of this. You know, as women we love our hair, but it’ll grow back,” Said Walker. Once today’s process was over, her hair stylist helped style a wig for her. She joked around saying it was blonder than usual, but under circumstances, she’s happy with how it turned out.
