Bentley Takes Oath of Office for Second Term

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Gov. Robert Bentley has taken the oath of office to begin his second term as governor.

Bentley was sworn in Monday by Chief Justice Roy Moore on the Capitol steps in Montgomery.

The 71-year-old Republican took the oath under sunny skies and without the freezing weather that has occurred at many Alabama inaugurations.

Other state officials, including Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey and Attorney General Luther Strange, took their oaths of office before Bentley.

For the ceremony, red banners were hung between the Capitol’s column to give the appearance of sunrise. A wide red carpet flowed down the Capitol steps to the podium where officials took their oaths of office.
