The Martin Luther King Holiday also shares the day with Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
In honor of Lee’s birthday the first white house of confederacy held a birthday celebration.
Lee was born on Jan 19 1807 and king was born on jan 15 1929.
The state has been celebrating Lee’s birthday as a state holiday for decades.
The federal government selected the third monday of January as the day to honor King in 1983.
That then put the two holidays on the same day.
