Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey Makes History for Republicans

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Kay Ivey has become the first Republican in Alabama history to have two consecutive terms as lieutenant governor.

Ivey took the oath of office for her second term on the Capitol steps Monday in Montgomery. A spokeswoman for Ivey said she is the fourth Alabama lieutenant governor elected to two consecutive terms and the first Republican to do it.

Ivey said her goal and those of other state officials who took the oath of office Monday is to make sure the state is better in four years than it is now.

Ivey had one of the most sought-after gifts for people attending the sunny inaugural ceremony. They were green sunglasses that said “Alabama’s Future is Bright” on one side and “Lt. Governor Kay Ivey” on the other.
