Something unusual is being stolen in Troy, but you’re going to have to look down and watch your step to see what’s being taken.
In just a few weeks, 13 storm drains have been stolen from all across the city. Each drain weighs more than 100 pounds. Police believe the drains were stolen for scrap metal. But the cast iron will only get a trade in value of a few dollars.
Each drain costs the city $700. Police ask that if you see anyone who’s not in a city or county marked car fooling with the drains, call 911.
Kathleen Forbish, storm drain stolen outside sister’s house said, “I just feel like anybody that doesn’t have anything to do with their time but come around and do stuff like that, they need to think again. Because it’s just destroying the city, causing more money, it’s making other people feel like we are living it a very crime area, and this neighborhood over here is very quiet.”
Troy police say six out of the thirteen stolen drains have been recovered. And Andrew Gramling, of Glenwood, has been arrested in connection with the case. He’s been charged with theft of property first degree, and is being held in Pike County jail on $20,000 bond.
