In less than 200 days the new K-8 Pike Road School will open. And Saturday the process started to find teachers and staff.
Town leaders were expecting a large crowd, but the turnout exceeded all expectations. Hundreds attended, even overflowing the overflow room. There are about 50 teaching positions up for grabs.
Positions like custodial staff, food service, and grounds keeping will be contracted out.
The superintendent says she’s looking for trail blazers and innovators who are going to be creative in their classrooms.
Dr. Suzanne Freeman, Superintendent said, “We know that our children are so different from generations of the past and the world is very different in which these children will have to live and work. And so we have to do school in a very different way. And in Pike Road we have that opportunity with a blank canvas to do it really well. And do it how it ought to be done for children.”
School leaders are expecting to hire around 50 people out of hundreds of applicants.
Interviews will start in about two weeks and the superintendent hopes to have staff in place by the spring to get ready for classes to start in the fall.
