Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world and Alabama is not immune. The Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force hosts their first summit today at the First Baptist Church downtown.
Hundreds of first responders, counselors, teachers, and attorneys are listening to speakers and learning about labor trafficking and sex slavery.
Speakers from all across the state are hoping to provide training on how to spot human trafficking and how to help victims. It’s a phenomenon that some don’t even realize is happening in their city.
State Representative and Chair of the Task Force Jack Williams said, “I-20 corridor is one of the busiest corridors for human trafficking in the country. Because it is over 1,000 miles long and connects Dallas and Atlanta there are millions of people who live on this corridor. There are millions of people that live on this corridor and young women are moved continuously back and forth up and down I-20 just simply being exploited.”
