Local Church Hosts Mardi Gras Themed Race
First United Methodist Church played host to a 5K, 8K, and 1-mile Fun Run today in Montgomery. This year’s theme…Mardi Gras! The church’s carnivale themed event helped raise money for their youth ministry, with the money going toward travel funds for their community work both local and abroad.

About 150 runners of all ages entered in the race. Most were from Alabama, but there were even some runners from out of state. Runners as young as seven ran as well…and even beat out some of the adults!Â

“I love seeing them cross the finish line,” said volunteer organizer Jill West. “It’s…rewarding to know where the money is going and that so many more youth are going to learn how to be the hands and feet of Christ.”

This is the sixth year for the church fundraiser. The church raised over six thousand dollars.
