Court to Hear Lawsuit Over Teen Used as Bait in Sex Sting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has agreed to hear oral arguments in a federal lawsuit filed by a man who says Alabama school district officials used his daughter as bait for a teen with a history of sexual harassment.

WAFF-TV reports that a date for arguments has not been set.

The lawsuit says in 2010 a teacher’s aide asked the 14-year-old girl to go into a middle school bathroom so the 16-year-old boy could be caught trying to have sex with her and disciplined.

Evidence shows she was raped before school officials could get into the bathroom.

A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit in July 2013.

The Justice Department asked that it be revived. Court documents filed by the DOJ say officials knew of the attacker’s history.
