We have an On Your Side consumer alert — Montgomery Police want you to take caution on a scam that going around the area… Police say they’ve received several complaints from residents saying they’re getting calls from people claiming to be “medics” and they’re telling you one of your family members has been involved in a traffic accident. Police say that person is also asking for information about the victim claiming they need it to fill out medical forms. That’s not all — police say the person is requesting money for the family member’s medical care, but police say the caller is not a real medic. “In this case, they create a crisis and try to keep you on the phone and get you to react and get information before you have time to slow down and think about it,” Said Mark Davis with Montgomery Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit. Police say the caller is calling from a blocked or unknown number — and anyone’s the target. Police say the calls are also coming in several variations — sometimes they’re acting as the Red Cross, even saying a family member has been arrested and needs to be bonded out. If you receive one of these calls, contact the Montgomery Police Department at 241-2651.
