One-Man Volleyball Team Helps Teens Fight Bullying

It may seem like an odd match up… One man against a whole team.
But Bob Holmes beats the odds, and it’s part of his message to reach teens.

“I had a burden to reach the teenagers of America because I heard last year 2 million of them tried to kill themselves in one year. So I got motivated to put on an exhibition. But it started with back pain and a chiropractor suggested I start doing that,” said Holmes.

And it grew from there.
Now Holmes and his message have reached 5 and a half million people.
Holmes travels the country playing groups of people with 19 thousand games under his belt… He’s won 18,400 of them by himself.
While that may be impressive, for him, it’s actually about winning over teens.

“I play the teams and then speak about standing alone and beating the odds. How they don’t have to do what everybody else is doing. If everybody is bullying somebody, you can encourage the person,” said Holmes.

His message hit home with teens that came out to Wetumpka High School for the night.

“No matter if they get bullied, it won’t matter cause they are not doing anything to deserve the bullying,” said 9th grader Michael Cartwright.

“If they see it happen, they need to stop it and not be a bystander,” said 10th grader Amber Dese.

“I think it could prevent a lot just to let somebody know that you care about them,” said 10th grader Brittany Dennison.
