Selma Hosts Inaugural Mardi Gras

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The city of Selma hosts its very first Mardi Gras Parade and Festival.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the preparations for the Mardi Gras events.
The parade starts at ten Saturday morning. It will go down Broad Street from Furniss Avenue to Water Avenue.

The festival will start immediately after the parade — at Phoenix Park.

“Its something for all the citizens of Selma and their families and friends to just come out and enjoy,” said Co-organizer Temekia Sykes.

City officials say they want to try and make the Mardi Gras celebration an annual event.
