We’re less than 24 hours away before probate offices across the state will be able to issue same-sex marriage licenses — that is unless the U.S. Supreme Court steps in. If that doesn’t happen, Pastor Jay Wolf with First Baptist Church of Montgomery says there’s only one thing left he believes the people should do: go after a constitutional amendment. The prayers are stronger than ever at First Baptist Church of Montgomery… “The Supreme Court will rule, I pray, that common sense will prevail,” Said Pastor Wolf. He says that “common sense” can be found inside the Bible… “When God made man and woman he designed a man and a woman to be the basic component of human society. He made them Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” Said Wolf. After a federal judge struck down the stay on Alabama’s same-sex marriage ban, that means probate judges can start issuing marriage licenses Monday.. Wolf says he’s trying to send out a message. He says same-sex marriage should not be legal. “If you rebel against God, if you step out of bounds. He doesn’t like that. As a matter of fact, he will crush that,” Said A message not just to his congregation. But to the people who are thinking about getting a same-sex marriage license. “My message is simple. Jesus loves you. And there is a better way. Please understand that God has created you with a loving divine design. And his prohibitions are for your protection,” Said Wolf. He hopes for a 5-4 ruling from the Supreme Court this summer to make same-sex marriage illegal in Alabama. But if not, he says he’s an advocate for amending that part of the constitution… “In 1920 we had the 19th amendment because women could not vote and people rose up and said that’s not right and we’re going to change that. And if we have activist judges who determine men can marry men and women can marry women then we can change that,” Said Wolf. Back in 2006, 81 percent of Alabamians ratified a constitutional amendment to strictly define marriage as “between one man and one woman.” Wolf says it’s not fair for a federal judge to over-rule the voice of a state.
