AUTAUGAVILLE, AL—- Kids from Kindergarten to 8th grade came out to Autaugaville on Saturday and Sunday for quite a wild ride.
“It’s just he pure adrenaline rush over your body when you put your feet on each side of the bull,” said Nace Boswell, one of the participants.
Garrett Gulliot and his mom Jennifer have been raising funds to make the youth rodeo happen. And despite some bumps in the road, and Garret’s broken wrist, over 70 kids were able to come out and have a good time.
“I always want to make sure all of my contestants, and all of my frinds, and everyone here has a great time and has the best they can do,” said Gulliot.
And whether trying to get their best time, or staying on the bull as long as possible, the kids say the rodeo is like spending time with family.
“It’s like a big family, and everybody tries to help everybody else,” said participant Caitlin Tisdale. “And it’s not really you competing against everyone else, it’s you competiting against the timer or stopwatch.”
“We we’re trying our best,” said participant Colt Christie. “And he won yesterday and I won today. We always know that who ever won first would push the otehr one and let him like, and tell him to get better.”
And while the rodeo can create friendships, it’s also a place where parents hope their kids learn valuable lessons.
“In the sport of rodeo, there are a lot of kids who learn valuable lessons in life.,” said Alabama Junior Rodeo Association President David Tisdale. “And learn them inside this arena before they have to learn them outside.”
