Tuscaloosa Middle School Teacher Charged in Obscenity Case

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – A Tuscaloosa middle school teacher is charged with sending a nude photo to a 12-year-old girl.

Police say 35-year-old Jason Burd was arrested Wednesday on a charge of sending obscene material to a student.

Burd is a teacher at Rock Quarry Middle School, but The Tuscaloosa News reports he was placed on leave in January.

Court documents filed by police allege the man became friends with the student through the messaging application Snapchat and began asking her for nude photos.

The document says the student closed her account after the man sent her a nude photo.

Defense attorney Daniel Pruet says Burd is “heartbroken” over the charges and looks forward to defending himself in court.

Burd worked as a math teacher and coach at the school.
