The Harlem Ambassadors basketball team took on the “Habitat Home” team at Faulkner University’s Gym Friday night.

First, our local celebrities were announced, including Alabama New Network’s sports team of Mo Carter, Kirk Nawrotzky and Ben Bolton. Plus, news reporter Catalina Trivino played, and morning anchor Olivia Deas sang the national anthem.

“We are excited to be here. We’re all gonna dance, all gonna shoot, and hopefully at the end of it everybody is still doing well,” said Nick Mielke, Exec. Director of Montgomery Habitat for Humanity.

Before the game, each team was sizing the other one up…

“Lady Majic”  of the Harlem Ambassadors tell us, “they have a guy that’s about 6’12” out there. So I think he’s going to try to dunk on us. We don’t know what’s going to happen. But we’re going to find out pretty soon.”

Of course, the Harlem Ambassadors had some tricks up their sleeves.
From high flying dunks to crazy dribbles and basketball spins, it’s all a part of the fun.
But it’s also a part of a very important cause.

“All money raised tonight is going to benefit programs for Montgomery Habitat For Humanity. What we do is work with low income families to prequalify them to hopefully own their own home,” said Mielke.

The Harlem Ambassadors travel the world helping to raise funds for local charities. And they also want to be positive role model for the youngest audience members.

“It’s all about letting them make positive choices. And if they see us having fun, the reason we’re able to do it is because we stay drug-free. We have our college degrees one, two or pursuing three,” said “Lady Majic.”

And win or lose…. It’s all about having a good time while helping those in need.

All proceeds from Friday’s event will stay in Montgomery to help provide homes for those in need.
