Lowndes Co. Interpretive Center Hosts Voter Registration Month Kick Off

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Elected officials in communities along the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail kick off Voter Registration Month in Lowndes County.

Officials from Dallas, Montgomery and Lowndes Counties met at the Lowndes County Interpretive Center — to promote the vote.

“Because it is important,” said Selma mayor George Evans. “It makes a difference in life as well as the quality of life that we all might live.”

They say too many people in their communities are taking the right to vote for granted — and encourage more people to take part in the democratic process.

“Blood, sweat and tears, as well as lives were given to be able to vote,” said Montgomery mayor Todd Strange. “So to the extent that we’re not doing that — shame on us.”

Officials signed a resolution designating the month of March as Voter Registration Month.
