Gay marriage in Alabama became law at the beginning of February, but some groups are still protesting the decision. This morning, hundreds of people filled the capitol steps in Montgomery in protest to same-sex marriage. The two hour event featured speakers declaring their belief that marriage should be only between a man and a woman.

“We wanted to stand with others to encourage one another in the word of God,” said Tom Ford, protesting against same-sex marriage, “and to encourage our politicians to stand and do the right thing.”

Across the street, a counter-protest was held by those in favor of same-sex marriage, including members of Birthplace of Justice and the Montgomery Area Free Thought Association.

“I don’t have any issue with them having their own particular religious views,” says counter-protestor Brian Wibecan, “but for them to impose their religious views on people who are outside their own religion is just unconscionable.”
