The Alabama Education Association is in the processing of terminating Executive Secretary Henry Mabry.

And with the legislative session about a week away, some are wondering what impact that will have this year.

The executive secretary of AEA works closely with lawmakers throughout the year.

Some are glad to see Mabry go, while others don’t feel the same.

Henry Mabry served as AEA Executive Secretary for the last four years.

It’s still settling in for some legislators that he won’t be coming back.

“i’m still in shock. I know there were some issues several months back,” said Rep. Thad McClammy.

“I was surprised because it wasn’t that long ago that the executive board gave henry mabry a vote of confidence, so I was very surprised to hear they had terminated him,” said Sen. Dick Brewbaker.

AEA won’t discuss the proceedings due to Mabry’s contract, but president Anita Gibson released a statement saying this is the first step to right the ship.

Speaker of the house mike hubbard released a statement saying during Mabry’s time, AEA has been uncooperative. He hopes that will change now.

State senator Dick Brewbaker says that it depends on who replaces Mabry, a man who had a lot of experience in state politics.

“I’m sure that the AEA will miss that, but at the same time when it came down to the actual relationships with elected officials, they were pretty rocky,” said Sen. Brewbaker.

State Representative Thad McClammy says he and his democratic colleagues had a good relationship with Mabry, and now is not the best time to replace him.

“For all practical purposes we’re already in session, we’re going formally on the 3rd, but the game has already started and it’s like bringing a new coach in and bringing new players too after the game has started,” said Rep. McClammy.

The Alabama Education Association has requested the help of the national organization to help fix their issues as quickly as possible.

AEA  officials did not give a timeline for when the pre-termination hearing is set to begin
