Education and state leaders gathered in Troy Thursday talking about the state’s distance learning program.
Just last year, ACCESS distance learning program was used by more than 27,000 students.
Representatives from the state, Troy University and superintendents from the 27 southern counties gathered at Troy’s extended learning center to celebrate the success of the program.
They also heard from students and school leaders in Pike County’s new virtual high school that’s benefited from ACCESS.
Dr. Mark Bazzell, Pike County Superintendent said, “The virtual high school has two components to it, one is credit recovery program and the other is two of our academies, the global studies academy and the aviation academy. And without ACCESS we would not have the flexibility in scheduling for either of those programs to work.”
Since ACCESS started in 2006, graduation rates have gone up and drop out rates have gone down. ACCESS leaders say the program is one factor in that trend.
