We are just days away from the beginning of celebrations commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery march.
This weekend hundreds of volunteers from Dallas, Montgomery and Lowndes Counties spent the day cleaning up trash along the 54 mile-trek. Around one hundred organizations stepped up to adopt each mile along the trail.
Not only are crews working to clean up the trail but also make it more visible. New solar panel lights have been added to each sign stretching from Selma to Montgomery.
Karen Jones, CEO, Founder Whom It Concerns
“let their light shine. Through our solar power lights and through their good works that they did in helping to make our civil rights trail not only historic but beneficial to all black people that wanted voting rights.”
This project was a collective effort by many state and local agencies and a grant from Mid-South Resource Conservation and Development Council.
