Golden Apple: Melanie Stephenson
It’s that time when we honor a great teacher for their work in the classroom. Our Golden Apple award this week takes us to Prattville Primary School.
Melanie Stephenson has spent eight years teaching second graders. She says she always knew she wanted to be a teacher. Her students’ parents nominated her because they told us their children can’t wait to get to school and be in her classroom.
“We’ve moved more into student-focused teaching, where you stand up in the front of the room less, and the children work together more. As a learner, I learn best when I’m actually doing things and I think they’re the same way,” she said.
