Record-breaking crowds are expected to pour into Selma this weekend for the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. Could the crowds and extra security measures keep some local residents from going?
We spoke to some people in montgomery who say the huge out-of-town crowds may keep them from making the drive. Some say they’re worried about all the extra traffic on the roads or potential parking problems.
The event will have plenty of security, and President Obama is set to speak on Saturday. Some people in Montgomery say the excitement is enough to make them want to brave the crowds.
“If there’s more people going, that’s more of an incentive to go, I don’t know, I don’t think having more people it means not going,” said Kevin Sidbon.
“It’s part of history, so it’s important that we remember as young people and keep the tradition going,” said Brionne Peterkin.
We spoke to charter bus companies, who told us they’re almost completely booked on Bloody Sunday. Hotels in Selma and Montgomery are already sold out of rooms ahead of the weekend.
