Big Crowds Pack Downtown Selma for Saturday Jubilee Events

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The annual Jubilee Parade and Festival provided a little fun for all the people who made the journey to Selma to take part in the 50th celebration.

This year’s crowd is one of the biggest in Jubilee history.

Ten of thousands of people from all over the country descended on the city to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma Voting Rights Movement — and possibly catch a glimpse of President Obama.

Roberta Robinson says she came all San Diego, California with about 20 family members to be a part of the 50th.

“We are here to commemorate and remember and to know that its not over and to keep going. I’m here with my whole family. There’s 20 of us here today and we are celebrating and remembering and pushing on,” said Robinson.

The Unity Breakfast — morning service at Brown Chapel Church — and the bridge crossing reenactment highlight Sunday’s line up of events.
