The city of Tuskegee is cracking down on night clubs.

Those include employing a licenced security company, installing cameras, and screening employees.

The city council passed the ordinance last year after violent incidents. Club owners tell us they’re trying to work with the city to make things safer.

“It’s different now. We’re trying to keep that away from here. You know if you get caught here trying to get a knife or a gun or weapon of any kind, you put out for life. Don’t even come back,” said Roderick Clark, owner of Club Mason.

City Manager Harvey Smith says he does not want any of the clubs to have to close, because Tuskegee is a college town that needs entertainment for young people. He says he just wants to make sure it’s a safe environment.

“We really don’t want to shut any of those clubs down. If they comply, we’re all for them staying open,” Smith said.

The clubs have until tuesday to pass the inspections or have their business licences revoked. That’s the next meeting of the city council.
