Plans for March from St. Jude to Capitol

As montgomery commemorates the final leg of the Selma to Montgomery March, the route from St. Jude to the State Capitol will be filled with thousands of marchers.
If you would like to march, you can start at St. Jude as long as you arrive before 10 am…or you can join the march at one of the 5 entry points along the route.
You can enter at the following places:
West Davis Avenue at Oak Street
Day Street at South Holt Street
Mildred Street at Mobile Street
Montgomery Street at Goldthwaite Street
Or any portion of Dexter Avenue
Marchers will march up Dexter Avenue past the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church until they get to the state Capitol.
There will then be a speech given by Dr. King’s daughter, Rev. Dr. Bernice King, as well as former governor George Wallace’s daughter, Peggy Wallace Kennedy, and musical performances.
As far as parking, if you are arriving at St. Jude, you can park at the Hayneville Road Community Center or Riverwalk Stadium on Columbus Street downtown.
Shuttles will be running to take you to your destination between 7:00-9:30 am.
Streets along the route will be closed and will reopen as the march proceeds downtown.
Water stations will also be available throughout the route for the marchers.
The events are free and open to the public.
