Treating Spring Allergies

Spring is in the air, but it can also mean dreaded allergies for many.
Allergist Dr. Allen Meadows says the season started earlier this year as it did last year.
And the main thing that is in the air making people sneeze and have itchy, watery eyes is the grass pollen.
Dr. Meadows says there are several ways you can treat your allergies.
This year there is medication available over the counter that was not available before.

“Before this season, they only place you could get nose spray was from your doctor. But this year, 2 over the counter nose sprays are available. Nasacort 24 and Flonase are available without prescription. The medicines have to be used everyday. Should take about 10 days to start working and about a month to have a maximum effect.”

Dr. Meadows says if you have concerns about what you are allergic to, the best thing to do is see your doctor and find out the best treatment for you.
