The Elm Street project in Troy’s seen road blocks and speed bumps for three years But, now it seems to be on the fast track.

Elm Street is a main corridor into the city and a portion of the road is on wetlands, making it easy to flood. The road’s often closed during heavy rain.

The city is investing about $400,000 and using $2 million of the state’s ATRIP funds to construct a bridge and repave the road.

The mayor says a special council meeting’s been called for Monday at 10 a.m. to move forward with the bid awarding. That’s a process that can take months, but’s only taken about a week.

Mayor Jason Reeves said, “All the development through the years has taken it’s toll and so we are glad to see the road be improved. And we really appreciate peoples patience because the roads been in bad shape for a while.”

Construction could start in the next three weeks.

The mayor says they hope to get an early start so that school traffic is not effected for too long in August. The road will be closed during construction of the new bridge and repaving.
