Gov. Robert Bentley sat down with Alabama News Network Anchor Darryl Hood to talk about the need for more revenue in the face of a state budget shortfall.

Bentley has proposed raising taxes as the only way to get the state out of a $700 million hole. But he’ll need the approval of the Legislature.

“I think we’re going to get it accomplished. I’m optimistic. Now is it going to come out the way I sent it over?  No, there are a lot of tax fairness plans out there. I don’t want it hurting a lot of the general population. So yes, there are things I want to see in the tax package. I believe we will get at least $500 million, and I’d like to see the $541 million,” Bentley said.

The Legislature is starting talks on the General Fund and Education budgets.
