Authorities are trying to determine the cause of a house fire that killed two people in Selma on Easter.

Fire Chief Mike Stokes tells the Selma Times-Journal (http://bit.ly/1c0XUKx ) the state fire marshal’s office will investigate a blaze that killed 61-year-old Roy Morgan and 53-year-old Brenda Ann Lee Morgan before dawn on Sunday.

Stokes says a passer-by noticed smoke coming from the couple’s home. The man stopped and began beating on doors and windows but didn’t get a response.

One victim was already dead by the time firefighters arrived and the other died after being removed from the home. Stokes says both people appear to have died from smoke inhalation.
