High Profile Cases Head to Dallas County Court

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The Dallas County Courthouse has been a busy place this week — with a couple of high profile cases making their way through the justice system this week.

Witness testimony is now underway in the capital murder trial of Joseph Walters.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson says he expects the trial to last about a week. Jackson says Walters shot and killed Rodney Walters on New Year’s morning back in 2011.

“The victim was sitting in his car. Group of guys came up. Joseph Walters was the shooter. Fired into the car killing the victim.” said Jackson. “This was a retaliation shooting. They were mad at the victim and went over there and shot him.”

Jackson says Ronald Mitchell who was set to go on trial for murder pled guilty to manslaughter and assault — and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
