From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The historic St. James Hotel in Selma is once again under new management — and its buzzing with activity during the city’s spring tourism season.

Selma Mayor George Evans says there have been a few changes at the hotel since the city took over day to day operations last month.

He says the menu and the hours of operation at the hotel’s restaurant have now been expanded and the hotel has been generating revenue since the takeover.

“We have found as a result of some tweeking we’ve done that the St. James is making money,” said Evans. “The restaurant is making money, the bar is making money, the hotel is making money based on the numbers we’ve gotten.”

The St. James Hotel is owned by the city.

Evans says the city council will be looking for a new manager or a buyer for the hotel — over the next 90 days.
