From the West Alabama Newsroom– Its the first week on the job for the new superintendent of Selma City Schools — and she’s already implementing her plan to move the district forward.
Dr. Angela Mangum says she’s up for the challenge of leading the Selma school district into the future.
Mangum’s hiring signals the start of a gradual pulling out of the school system by the state’s intervention team.
The State Board of Education took control of the district last year after an investigation found academic and sexual misconduct in the district.
“Everybody is very positive about the work that has been done and they feel comfortable and confident that the district will continue to grow,” said Mangum. “Everyone is ready to move forward and very excited about the future for Selma and the school system and I’m excited as well and ready to move forward.”
Mangum says she’ll spend the next few weeks focused on building relationships with the staff and stake holders throughout the school district.
