Imagine saving a life with just seconds to spare. That’s exactly what Paramedics and nurses for ‘Life Flight’ have to deal with on a daily basis. Life Flight deals with life threatening injuries. Especially heart attack and stroke patients. When the flight crew gets a call, time is of the essence.
“Your first hour after you have any type of injury is your most important hour. They call it the golden hour that you have to get to the facility that can help you the quickest.” Says Donna Thrower. Nurse for Life Flight.
There are several requirements nurses and paramedics have to go through in order to be apart of Life Flight. That includes having advanced cardiac life support certification, pediatric, and even trauma nursing certifications, just to name a few.
“With the helicopter we can bypass a smaller facility, a smaller hospital that may not have a cardiologist, or may not have a neurosurgeon. We can bypass them and fly right on over to a hospital that does.” Says Thrower
‘Life Flight’ Network is a not-for-profit group started more than 36 years ago.
