Commissioner Suggests Handing Over Rock Building

The fate of the historic rock building in downtown Troy is still in limbo.

Tonight at the county commission meeting, residents spoke for and against the county spending the money to fix the historic building.

The county owns the building and it’s sat vacant for close to 20 years.

The commission did pledge $50,000 this year to help fix it up, but they say there’s not a revenue stream to make a long term pledge right now.

Ray Goodson, District 4 Commissioner said, “I’ve always been a supporter of the Rock Building, and we hadn’t had the money in the past and it’s lingered on for several years. And every year it deteriorates more and more and it has mold and all of that in it and I feel like it would be in the best interest of the county if we would donate it to the historic society, or the city of Troy or anyone that would take it and fix it.”

Commissioners now need to discuss Goodson’s proposal or how to proceed with the building further.
