From the West Alabama Newsroom– The Alabama Department of Environmental Management hosted about a 120 middle schoolers at an Earth Day celebration at School of Discovery in Selma.
Students went through different stations that featured hands-on demonstrations about how to preserve and protect the environment. Students also learned about career opportunities in science related fields.
“Its amazing all of the different jobs that are encompassed in the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the children are getting real experience in what they do day in and day out,” said School of Discovery science teacher Allen Bearden. “They get to see that there is a real world application to the things that we do in the classroom.”
Earth Day is a worldwide annual event held in support of environmental issues.
