Scientists at Alabama State University are on the cutting edge of research to help fight the obesity epidemic in Alabama and they’re doing it on a very small scale but with big results.

Microbiologist at ASU are conducting the “Gut Micro-bi-ome Research Project”.

The  microbiome consists of the tens of trillions of microorganisms that live our large intestine.

Scientists are learning that these microbes are playing a large role in how our bodies use food.

Researchers have a goal to collect hundreds of local surveys about eating habits, including stool samples to study what we eat on a micro-biotic level.

If you would like to take part in the study either by taking a survey or giving a stool sample, just click on the link below or call the Microbiology lab for more information.
