Fallen Police Officers Remembered in Montgomery

To protect and serve, That’s the oath law enforcement officers take when they put on a badge.
But for some, to protect and serve means making the ultimate sacrifice. At the state capitol in Montgomery, four officers who died in Alabama in 2014 were remembered by the Fraternal Order of Police at a special ceremony. The four officers who died were William Kelly, John Williamson, Jeffrey Garrett and Bart Hart.
Hart was a deputy with the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office. He was killed when the patrol car he was driving was hit head on by another car on Firetower Road in Elmore County. Hart’s widow and daughter joined family member of the othe fallen officers remember their loved ones.
“We have wonderful friends and family and the law enforecement you know is our extended family”, said Hart’s widow Charlotte Hart.
Nationwide, 286 law enforcement officers lost their lives in 2014. So far this year in Alabama, 4 offices have already died.
