Students in the Hope-Inspired Ministries (HIM) program learn real life skills for job interview scenarios.
It’s something recent graduate Erica Williams says is invaluable to her.
“I learned how to act in an interview, how to fill out applications, how to speak to others when I’m going into an interview,” said Williams.
HIM offers a 13 week job training program free of cost to anyone who wants to develop employment skills and get their GED.
“We build a bridge between where they are in poverty and the middle class work force and we walk over that bridge with them. However, we don’t carry them over the bridge,” said Exec. Director Michael Coleman.
There are 30 students per class, but Coleman says the demand for their program is a lot higher. He says right now that’s all they can handle.
Thanks to organizations like the Junior League of Montgomery, HIM got the boost they need to maybe help bring in more teachers in the future.
The Junior League awarded HIM with a 14,560 dollar grant.
“Without organizations like the Junior League coming along side us, we simply could not do what we do,” said Coleman.
Williams who is now an administrative assistant at HIM says what they do is more than just job training and they definitely need the support.
“This program has helped many people. I even brag about it, try to get as many people here as possible. It’s not just helping people get jobs, it’s life changing because they help with a lot of personal issues as well as life changing issues,” said Williams.
Hope-Inspired Ministries is in need of volunteers to help students fill out job applications and do other basic skills. If you would like to help, call 334-649-4330.
The Junior League chose nine non-profits to award over a total of 91 thousand dollars in grants.
