A Tallapoosa County community is coming together to support a young woman suffering from a life-threatening disease, and they are asking for your help.

23-year-old Ashley Bunn has Cystic Fibrosis. At six months old, she was diagnosed with the disease, which causes the body to overproduce mucus. That can lead to fatal complications. She now needs a double lung transplant, and is currently on the waiting list for a match.

People around her hometown of Reeltown are raising money for her surgery and recovery, with this Saturday’s “Breathe for Bunn” 3-mile walk. They’ve already raised about $2,000, but they’re hoping to do much more.

Ashley Bunn says the community’s care has made a huge difference. “I just wake up happy. I think if you wake up happy, the rest of your day can be good, so that’s what I try to remind myself,” she said.

You can still get involved. If you want to sign up for the walk, you can register on Saturday. The “Breathe for Bunn” walk is $25 a person.
