More than one thousand special olympians are gearing up to compete at Troy University.

It’s going to be a weekend full of events.
The Law Enforcement torch run marks the end of Police Week in Troy and the beginning of the state’s Special Olympics.

The university is not the only place with a lot going on this weekend.

The covered bridge at the Pioneer Museum will be the backdrop for their first ever historical battle reenactments.

Troy University leaders say it’s honor to host the state games for the ninth year in a row.

Herb Reeves, Dean of Student Services said, “I think it speaks well of the University and speaks from the city of Troy and speaks well to people. And surrounding areas because all of our volunteers are not from Troy. We have volunteers that come from Montgomery and Dothan.”

Charles Henderson High School is also hosting their football jamboree all weekend.

All the special olympics events are open to the public. The reenactments will run at 2:30 on Saturday and Sunday.
