Time Running Out for Lawmakers Working on Budgets

Lawmakers are running short on time and options as they seek a solution to the projected General Fund shortfall for next year.
There are eight meeting days left in the 2015 legislative session.
The Alabama House of Representatives will vote Tuesday on a stripped down $1.6 billion budget that cuts roughly $200 million from state agencies. Gov. Robert Bentley has lashed out at the spending plan, saying the cuts will “hurt people.”
House Speaker Mike Hubbard says the House will get the budget up to the Senate and try to work with senators on a solution.
Bentley has vowed to veto any General Fund budget with deep cuts and to bring lawmakers back in special session this summer.
